David Asakitogum, PhD, MPhil, RN, LMH
Postdoctoral Scholar
Dr. David Asakitogum, the first PhD from his Ghanaian community, is a pioneering nurse and researcher dedicated to women’s health. Originally trained at Bolgatanga Nursing Training College, he spent 15 years serving rural Ghana, focusing on malaria, HIV prevention, and cervical cancer awareness. He established the Cervical Cancer Screening Unit at Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, serving 700,000 women. His research at UCSF focuses on improving the quality of life for gynecologic cancer patients in underserved areas and training healthcare workers in early detection. With a PhD in Nursing, multiple certifications, and editorial roles in oncology journals, he has received prestigious awards, including UCSF Global Cancer Fellow.
